Rachael Bryson
 
Rachael Bryson
Senior Research Associate, National Security and Public Safety
Rachael Bryson is a Senior Research Associate in national security and public safety with the Conference Board of Canada. Her areas of research include national security, cyber security, and emergency management. Rachael is also a PhD candidate at Carleton University, where her doctoral research examines civil-military relations and strategic decision making during NATO coalition campaigns. Rachael is a former public servant, having worked in research and policy for the Department of National Defence, Public Safety Canada, and Global Affairs Canada. At DND, she helped design research projects on military culture and socialization in response to the 2015 External Review into Sexual Misconduct and Sexual Harassment in the Canadian Armed Forces. At Global Affairs, she was a lead policy advisor for Canada's feminist foreign policy in the Foreign Policy and Planning division. Rachael has previously interned with NATO as a strategic foresight analyst, and completed her masters at the Centre for Military and Strategic Studies at the University of Calgary and her undergraduate degree at the University of Ottawa.

Deborah Fleck
Senior Manager, Executive Networks

Deborah manages The Conference Board of Canada’s executive networks in the National Security and Public Safety knowledge area. These networks bring together the public and private sectors critical owners and operators, first responders and academia to help inform public policy and to improve the resiliency of their respective organizations and communities. Deborah manages the Conference Board’s Centre for National Security which has been recognized internationally as a successful mechanism for building public-private collaboration.

Karlen Herauf
 
Karlen Herauf
Meetings and Marketing Coordinator

In her role Karlen coordinates meetings, programming and administrative processes for the Council for Security Executives and the Council for Chief Privacy Officers. In addition to these Councils, Karlen provides support to other programming in the Security, Privacy and Public Safety knowledge area including the National Security Centre, Cyber Security Centre, and Strategic Foresight workshops. She also supports various programs within the Health, Health Care and Wellbeing portfolio. Each of these groups offer professional opportunities for strategic business leaders to network and learn from subject matter experts. Once upon a time, Karlen completed her BA Honours in Psychology with a major in Sociology at the University of Regina.
