Still Moving: Implementing Mindful Change

During this 60-minute live webinar, the second in a series, Deborah Rowland, author of recently published Still Moving; How to Lead Mindful Change, will share compelling insights into how to implement successful change in today’s world. She will draw on both the lessons from her own extensive field experience and her recent global research into the link between mindfulness and change leadership Her first webinar, Leading Mindful Change for Inspired Leadership, focussed on the inner capacities required of a leader, their quality of being. This session will focus on a leader’s external practices, or their quality of doing, that her research has shown are highly correlated with leading complex change in environments of high uncertainty You will learn about four practices that, when combined, create an equal balance of disruption and stability in a system, and enable a leader to create ongoing change in their organisation without the leader having to shoulder all the effort. Out of these four practices, Deborah will go deeper on the one that most highly differentiated successful change leadership – ‘edge and tension’ – requiring leaders to make disturbance their friend! Finally, Deborah will step back to look at how you can architect an overall approach to change in your organisation, and share her insights into the approach her research has shown is most relevant in today’s world, emergent change – which is counterintuitive to how most change is led, requiring leaders giving up their need to control or predict outcomes.

Building Client Trust and Client Loyalty

Building strong relationships with clients is critical for business success. But how do you ensure that the relationships you build are based on a solid foundation of trust? Earning and maintaining trust in relationships is where businesses often fall down. Companies use promotions or client-based events to build relationships, and while these activities might boost short-term sales goals, they fail to have a lasting impact on client loyalty or retention. Research has shown that trust is a predictor of future success. Five years ago, as a communications graduate student, Natalie Doyle Oldfield began studying and measuring how clients and stakeholders decide to trust organizations. This research included in-depth interviews, testing and surveying over 19,400 people. The results revealed that we trust organizations based on how they communicate, behave and how they serve clients and stakeholders. From this research, eight key principles emerged that, when applied, build, strengthen, and protect trust. Testing revealed that when the principles are applied, results include greater client loyalty and commitment, an increase in the number of referrals and increased sales predictability and improved business results. The Stewardship of Public Sector Service Excellence

The City of Vaughan is one of the fastest growing municipalities in the Greater Toronto Area. Their vision is to be the City of Choice. How they will get there is outlined in their Service Excellence Strategy Map that is focused on delivering on council commitments, improving the citizen’s experience including service delivery, managing growth and operating more effectively and efficiently. This transformational journey will take time. It is complex, dynamic and requires stewardship, leadership and management while balancing current fiscal responsibilities and commitments. Given this context, the City of Vaughan embarked on a 6-month process to design and implement the development of a plan to sustain the momentum of their transformation journey, and build capacity and focus for the balance of the term of council. At the end of this process they achieved the following critical milestones: unanimous council approval of the Service Excellence Strategy, a shared mindset and commitment from the stewards of the Service Excellence Strategy, an organizational design and alignment of the City’s three-year budget with the priorities and goals of the strategic plan while keeping the tax rate in line with targets set by Council. The City is currently implementing the next phase of their transformation journey.

Leading for Diversity: Are You Missing the Bigger Picture?

It’s one thing to manage diversity, but too few leaders understand the importance of tapping into the diverse talent of their workforce to increase performance. Despite strong initiatives in diversity and inclusion, most companies find their leaders still struggle with creating the kind of environment in which all employees—regardless of their aspects of diversity—can contribute their best work and experience continuous growth. What's Holding Women Back: A Look at Female Ambition in Canada

Can women have it all? New research commissioned by American Express Canada and Women of Influence suggests a more pertinent question for 2016—do they even want it all? With the workplace and landscape of life changing rapidly and the word success being redefined, this research examines the state of female ambition in Canada, looking at what, if anything, is holding women back. According to the new research, Canadian female entrepreneurs and corporate workers are divided when it comes to career ambition. Approximately half agree they would describe themselves as ambitious in their career and are highly motivated to advance their career further. Among corporate workers, even fewer believe it is achievable to reach the C-suite and less than a third aspire to it. The research suggests Canadian female entrepreneurs and corporate workers believe they have the skills it takes to be a successful leader. Why then, are there not more corporate women aspiring to the C-suite? In this 60-minute session, Naomi Titleman, Vice-President of Human Resources at American Express Canada, will walk through the research highlights and share thoughts on mentorship, sponsorship, and the impact a champion can have on pushing a career forward.
